Please Ban BBNaija - Muslim Group Beg Federal Government

The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, has urged the government to put an end to illegal television shows such as BBNaija.

The student organization made the announcement while honoring the 1443AH Islamic new year and International Youths Day in a statement issued by its Amir (president) Mallam Miftahudeen Thanni on Thursday.

Thanni was particularly concerned about the holding of the BBnaija program in Lagos, which he termed as "unfavorable for the development of youths in the state."

He has asked the Federal Government to outlaw the reality show Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) because of the risk it poses to young people.

“This will be the perfect present to honor international youth day,” Thanni stated.

According to Thanni, the reality program has become one of the country's most damaging temptations for young people.

He cautioned that the show will erode young people's morals, and that banning it would send a clear message to them that the government values modesty.

The Muslim students' representative questioned why the government "pretended" to be unaware of the dangers of the "nude, annoying, and soul-damaging" program, while some of its officials abuse, harass, and threaten female Muslim hijab wearers.

“The show negates everything about morality,” he remarked. It is evil and a threat to the strong moral foundation upon which many Nigerian societies are built. It is the most dangerous source of distraction for Nigerian teenagers.

“This immorality goes beyond nudism to inciting young people to sell their bodies for fame and profit. We vehemently oppose the program and demand that it be outlawed by the government.

“This indirect pornographic program is also instilling in kids the belief that success in life requires them to expose their bodies, resulting in a high rate of rape in society.”

Miftahudeen urged the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to meet their obligations by canceling the show on moral grounds.
