Internet Fraudster Hushpuppi To Be Sentenced To Jail On Valentine’s Day

Hushpuppi, a Nigerian fraudster who was apprehended, will be sentenced on February 14, 2022.

According to BBC Pidgin, the United States Attorney's Office in the Central District of California verified this, as did the court's Director of Media Relations, Thom Mrozek.

Hushpuppi pled guilty to multiple offenses including online fraud and money laundering, according to a plea agreement document signed by him, his lawyer, Loius Shapiro, and Acting United States Attorney, Tracy Wilkison, among others.

He's also accused of plotting a $14.7 million cyber-heist alongside North Korean military hackers Jon Chang Hyok, Kim Il, and Park Jin Hyok, as well as a Canadian colleague.

Hushuppi faces a 20-year prison term, a three-year supervised release period, and a fine of $500,000, or double the gross gain or loss resulting from the offense.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was also ordered by the same court to arrest DCP Abba Kyari, the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, for his suspected participation in a $1 million fraud allegedly conducted by Hushpuppi and five others.
