This week, in the streets of Philadelphia, USA, a 53-year-old man was mauled by a pack of dogs for attempting to protect his own pet dog from the rascals.

The incident occurred near the junction of Fairmount Avenue and Union Street in the Mantua neighborhood of West Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 1 at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Authorities said the officer arrived at the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Union Street and found the 53-year-old man being attacked by four dogs, including three pitbulls.

Police stated the dogs kept attacking the man even after the officer tried to divert their attention with his siren. Authorities say the officer then got out of his police car and shot the Cane Corso multiple times. The three pit bulls ran from the area.

Police claimed the 53-year-old guy had bite wounds all over his body. He was attempting to keep the black-colored pit bulls away from his own white pet dog throughout the incident. He was placed in stable condition at Presbyterian Medical Center.

Police reported that the officer who fired the rounds was unharmed. The encounter happened without the officer's body camera turned on, according to authorities.

The officer was placed on administrative duty, according to Philadelphia police policy, pending the outcome of the investigation.
