A startling incident caught on camera led to the suspension of two South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) staff members.
The footage revealed the SASSA officials, accompanied by two other individuals, entering the office premises after hours.
Two people were seen in the video sprinkling fluids around the workplace area and one holding what looked to be a snake.
The odd behavior was revealed the following day when coworkers showed up for work and found needles and strange materials at their desks.
Worried by what they discovered, the staff members immediately reported the occurrence to their managers.
Senzeni Ngubeni, spokesperson for SASSA in Mpumalanga, confirmed that two officials involved in the incident have been suspended pending investigations.
Ngubeni underlined that the agency is treating the issue seriously and looking into the workers' actions in detail.
In response to the incident, arrangements have been made to relocate SASSA services to a community hall while the office undergoes cleaning and fumigation.
The community hall is available for SASSA-related activities till further notice. The public has been notified of the temporary relocation.
