Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, is a controversial crossdresser and social media celebrity who has disclosed why he fled the country amid legal disputes.
Bobrisky explained in a string of social media posts that he briefly left Nigeria due to his health.
Bobrisky claims that his decision was motivated by the necessity to take care of his health and sanity as well as problems with certain Nigerian security organizations.
“A few Nigerian security agencies tried everything to frustrate me, but naah, I gat God,” he said.
He added, “Imagine!!! I bought business class tickets three times, but only one was successful. Each business class cost me 9,800,000. I only successfully flew out yesterday. Before you come to my page to type nønsénsé, check your account balance to see if you can afford three business class seats, not to talk about buying it three times. I’m not in Nigeria, so your comment means nothing to me. Cheers.”
Bobrisky’s exit comes after a chaotic few months. He was arrested by the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) at the Seme border and later sentenced to six months imprisonment for spraying the Nigerian Naira at an event, an act considered an abuse of the Naira by the Nigerian Constitution.
Bobrisky has also been the subject of claims of bribery and preferential treatment in prison. According to an audio leak, he paid the EFCC 15 million to get the money laundering accusations against him dropped. Additionally, the speaker claimed that he was able to pay the Nigerian correctional services to finish his sentence in a private setting with the assistance of his godfather.
The charges involved renowned human rights attorney Femi Falana and his son Falz, who Bobrisky said asked for N10 million in exchange for a presidential pardon. Mr. Falana refuted the charges, though.
