Sadio Mane has been honored for his contribution to Senegal's first-ever Africa Cup of Nations victory.
The Liverpool striker, 29, converted the game-winning penalty as the Teranga Lions defeated Egypt in the final. He also scored three goals and set up two more during the Cameroon-based tournament.
Senegal won the AFCON competition for the first time in their history.
Sedhiou's mayor has stated that the town's new football stadium would be named after him.
The new Stade Sadio Mane is now being built and will open next year.
Mayor Abdoulaye Diop made the following statement: "Sadio Mane has honored the whole country of Senegal, the Sedhiou region, and the Casamance region.
"I have decided to name the Sedhiou stadium after him.
"In doing so I wish to convey the gratitude of all the sons and daughters of the region towards him.
"He has made all of mankind aware of Bambali and Sedhiou, the region's main town.
"This is a gift that Sadio Mane truly deserves."
