Omawumi, a veteran musician, has disclosed what prompted her to chop her hair short, citing the tragic memories of the victims of last year's EndSARS marches.
End SARS is a decentralized social movement in Nigeria that consists of a series of public rallies against police brutality. The slogan demands that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a notorious Nigerian police organization with a lengthy history of abuses, be disbanded.

In an interview with HipTV, the Nigerian singer said that she cut her hair live in the video for her famous tune "Bullshit" because she was depressed by the loss of lives during the pandemic and the EndSARS rallies last year.
Omawumi said she was in so much misery that people were dying as the country celebrated mediocrity.
“In my video, I cut my hair; the song is called BS.” Because I was in a state of despair when I was writing it, I cut my hair live on camera. “I was losing folks left, right, and center during the pandemic,” she explained.
“In the backdrop, there was the ‘Soro Soke.' People were passing away. There seemed to be nothing going well in the country. Omawumi continued, "We were celebrating mediocrity."
