Something gently sq££zed my palms, and I awoke believing I was asleep. I heard low whispering and peered over the corner.
I
noticed David and Bola out of the corner of my left eye. David appeared to be
concerned while they were chatting.
“Did you
say she simply slumped?”
“After
receiving a call, yes.” Bola clarified.
“Uhm,” a
man in a white coat said as he entered.
“Thank
you for coming, Dr. Raymond.” David shook his hands and smiled.
Before
leaving, the doctor examined me for a bit looking upwards.
“Her
heart rate is close to normal, so she should be fine.” She's just stressed out,
that's all. You're aware.
“The
brain requires rest,” he explained.
“I
appreciate it, Doctor.” David replied with a sidelong glance.
What
brought them here? Perhaps Bola called him. Something might have happened.
“Does
she happen to be your sister?” I overheard Dr. Raymond ask David.
“No,
she's my wife,” David replied, his gaze fixed on me, as if I were about to leap
up and attack him.
This guy
ko gbadu o...wife ke….
The
doctor exited through the squeaky door.
“Did you
manage to recognize the caller?” David asked Bola.
“No, but
she did mention a name that seemed familiar.”
“Something
along the lines of Okon.” Bola responded.
My head
ached. I suddenly remembered what had happened earlier. The name Akpan sprang
to mind.
“Akpan
is the father of my child.” I said something that surprised them both.
“Thank
God, You've Awakened.” David appeared to be happy
“Akpan,
Lina's gatekeeper,” I said to no one in particular.
David
appears to understand what I'm after. He made a quick phone call to the cops. We
were on our way to Lina's in less than an hour in the dead of night
:::::::::::*********
“Seriously,
I have no idea what you're talking about.” Lina said as she sat in a chair at
the table in the police station.
“Can you
tell me where Akpan is?” A cop inquired about her
This is
my fifteenth time. She sputtered, “He...he...traveled.”
“Perhaps
a night in the cell will disclose everything.”
“I have
no idea where he is…. She shivered at the idea of a cell, she shivered at the
mention of a cell, she murmured something.
"Would
you like to say something?" Ade, the Inspector asked
“I don't
want to go to the cell,” she pleaded.
“All
well, then give us the information we require, and we'd release you.” His tone
was abrasive.
“I...know
where he is, and I can take you there, please don't send me to prison,” she
said, her face scared.
“All
right, take us there!” Inspector Ade gave a kind smile triumphantly.
Bola and
I remained at the station.
They
departed with David.
After
what seemed like an eternity of two hours, they returned to me. It was getting
close to Daybreak. I dashed out the door and into the van.
They've
taken Akpan and two other individuals into custody. Eniola, on the other hand,
isn't present.
“Can you
tell me where she is?” I yanked on David's shirt.
“They
stated she went missing for the second time” He appeared to be fatigued.
“Inspector?”
I took inspector Ade's hand in mine.
My eyes
welled up and tears streamed down my cheeks.
“She
isn't present. This scenario, I believe, comprises greater than we could have
imagined However, after a while, we'll open up after a rigorous interrogation.”
Men were
escorted inside a holding cell.
“It
can't be,” I said something to myself in hushed tones.
“We'll
track her down as soon as possible.” David lovingly cradled me. I cried on his
shoulders.
